Program – Paul
Thomas to introduce Robert Clark, Ojai City Manager,   “The  State of Ojai”.
Brief Summary:  The state of Ojai has  changed in the last 6 months since the initial presentation.  Economy:   25-30% of the budget comes from Hotel taxes. The 1st  quarter of the year was up 25%from the previous year so we are going in the  right direction.Financial Problem: Transit Fund has been reduced from the  Federal Government.  A Local committee
including riders came up with recommendations. 1. Stop Gold Coast from Mira  Monte to the “Y”. Hopes to save money and give more robust trolley service.  2. Double Fares 50c to $1 and 25c to 50c for low income. 3. Add Routes for AM  and decrease weekends to every hour.Redevelopment:  All  activities are on hold until court ruling.   Golden State water issue. The city has hired a specialized water  attorney and the city is in support of FLOW efforts.  Libbey bowl is ahead of schedule on pledges  being collected that will allow the city to be paid back for money up front  for the reconstruction.
Q & ARichard: Question  about Sarazotti Park usage. A- The city is working on providinging better care and  changing the mowing schedule.Ross: Streets need  to be maintained and how is that prioritized. A- They are organized into the
type of repair needed and then the available funds are used some in each type
of needed category.
Renee: Is there any  Ordinance Enforcement on the weekends? A- It is done on a complaint basis but  occasionally there is a specific force that enforces signs and other  ordinance infractions.Linda: Decreased  funds for public transportation contrasted with the need and demand for air
quality controls seems to be contradictory A- We are working to coordinate  services to decrease cost and continue to support services.
Thought for the Day“Life
is known only by those who have found a way to be comfortable with change and
the unknown. Given the nature of life, there may be no security, but only
adventure.”

Program –Ojai’s

Kathy introducing the Living Treasures

Living Treasures – Introduced by Kathy Doubleday: 5 of the 6 current Living Treasures spoke to us about their very differing passions for service to  the community (Dr. Tim Williamson was
unable to join us):
Paul Garth:  Areas of interest…things that can save people’s lives in emergencies.  He’s

Howard & Living Treasure Paul Garth

very active in CERT, Search and Rescue, Red Cross, Amateur (HAM) Radio.  He wants to grow leadership in the valley in these areas.
Wendy Hilgers:
Likes to volunteer behind the scenes. Came to Ojai in 1969 to help flood victims and kept volunteering.  She supported and helped guide the skate park’s location and installation (both the old temporary one and the new permanent site) because of her interest in her grandson’s passion for skateboarding.  She loves youth activities.

Yvonne Theriault:  She has been very involved in music… especially Elementary School music bringing instruments to children.  Helped form the summer youth music clinic at Miners Oaks school.  Plays tympani in the Ojai Community (summer) band.

Linda Burr & Living Treasures Lavonne Thierault & Wendy Hilgers

Candice Delbo: She’s a 33 year resident of Ojai.  In 1969 Rotary Club of Ojai brought the Young Americans to Ojai.  Candice learned from the leader that Ojai didn’t have any youth choral activities so she decided to form one.  This program has impacted many lives.  She loves to see her kids grow in community and high school productions.

Donna, Kathy & Living Treasure Candace Delbo

Cricket Twitchell:  Came to Ojai from “East of the Hudson” in 1969 and wasn’t so happy about it till her mother reminded her  to look for positive qualities in the people and she found them!  And she
found a liking for history and has been active in Ojai history pursuits since… including the museum.  Her latest adventure was to resurrect the Ojai History Walking Tours.  She reminds us that every Saturday morning at 10:30 at the museum there is a local history program… bring your out of town guests.  “Freely you have received, freely so shall you give”

Thought for the Day“In the final analysis it is not what you do for your children but what you have
taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human
beings.”

American advice column
