Many thanks for all the nice remarks about our board’s dancing and meeting last week.
July 17th is Basic PRLS in San Luis Obispo.
August 21st will be the Nordhoff Grid Iron BBQ. Bryan will have sign-up sheet as the date gets closer.
September 15th is the Ojai Valley OK Drill.
September 22nd - New CERT Class begins.
October 2nd – Our second annual Chili Cook-Off
at Lake Casitas
October 12th – District Governor Deepa Willingham will visit our club.
 |
Last but not least:
Ross Atkinson and Jane McClenahan
received their Board of Directors coffee mugs.
Ross is in charge of membership, and Jane is in charge of administration.
Thanks guys!
Jane indicated that our Club will be recognized at tonight’s City council Meeting for all of our work in 2009.

| Waypoints
Today’s Birthday Babies:
Ray Smith and Tom Farmer had to endure our vocal rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
They both looked so cute holding the cake. |

|
Anniversaries:
Nick Oatway celebrated his first year in RCOW.
It’s ironic how our rendition of “Happy Anniversary” sounds so much like our rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
Congrats Nick, as we look for many more years of service.
(Somebody should feed that poor man!) |

The Ojai Band
Concerts
Richard McArthur noted that the concerts started
twenty years ago, thanks to Sarah Beeby.
The City of Ojai wants to charge $800 for the use of the facility. We are attempting to have the fee waived.
Scott McArthur
(at right, above, and above) thanked all of those who have already put in time to make this years’ concerts a success.
Set-up starts at 6:30, concerts 7:30. Concerts are on Wednesday evenings for the next six weeks. Unofficial gathering at the
Los Caporales Mexican restaurant begins 5-5:30.

Special
Presentations - Club Assembly
|
In preparing for the year ahead we have set our mission and our vision in alignment with this year’s theme as our organizing principle:
Building Communities, Bridging Continents.
Today we concentrated on three areas:
-
Membership
-
Public Relations
-
Service
The club broke into groups to discuss each topic for the 2010 year.

Out and About
| On Tuesday night,
Rotary-West Member Paul Blatz attended his first Ojai City
Council meeting... |
 |
| ...as a Councilperson. |

|
Have you seen this man?
Dennis Jones forgoes the
razor's edge during his vacation. |
The
Rotary Club of Ojai-West was prominently featured in TWO newspapers last
Wednesday, about two different programs:
Anne Kallas, Ventura County Star, (the same reporter who did the article on
our Floating Classroom recently) wrote an article about the Ojai Band Concerts
history. It was on page B5 in the County Section.
Amber Lennon, Ojai Valley News did a front page article on member Rick
Turner and his water resource project in Guatemala. Rick is about to leave
again for more work there, with Sid Cohn.
